rockaway parkway

framed in scratched metal seams,
the magenta streaked violet sky glowed
faint under fluorescent lamps. overexposed

like the bare man hung on the roof,
flexing his body behind a superimposed
cologne bottle. a voice filtered through the

speaker as a gentle nudge, rousing
napping passengers as the wheels chewed
the metal rails. here the city sleeps

with open second floor windows, the
taste of Sbarro behind toothpaste, & some
knots tied in foot soles unraveling miles
of jaywalked streets and crowded sidewalks.

here lies my veins, tangled and suffocating.
