soliloquy on an abandoned place

tenements crawled within themselves of
marriages of rats under collapsed rafters,
spoiled trash gathering mycelium veils and
blossoms of cobwebs cradling eggs.

here, the oppressive moan of wind through
hollowed walls echoed for its ghosts, those
gas-lit silhouettes colored raucous with
spray-paint graffiti.

past lives mingled with squatters and
backpacked wanderers in this jungle of
scaffolding, this potpourri place of
lost and found.
