good trade deals

baubles of pearly plastic,
charms of silver soda tabs,
strands of jade fishing net
laid strewn about the shoreline;
tacky red and yellow bobbers floated
on blue carpets of grocery bags

a rainbow of tourist-trap trinkets
wildy overpriced and widely undersold
’cause the gulls got their sand dollars stolen
and resold for quarters like souvenir pennies,
and the fish learned quickly from man,
eating anything like the color of food,

and the man smiled at his great deal,
savoring his oil slick sashimi
